What Is the Value of Using an E Verified Janitorial Service

Pro Clean

When you are hiring a janitorial service to clean your office or facilities, you may assume that they verified the employment eligibility of their employees and ran background checks before hiring. However, this assumption may not be accurate.

The reality is that background checks and screenings are required by state or federal law for some but not all jobs. This means that some businesses choose to neglect to vet their employees — and you have no way of knowing to whom they are handing the keys to your office, facility, or business.

Would you allow just anyone to have free access to your space? Probably not, as your own company or organization likely runs background checks on its’ own employees. This is just one of the reasons why it is important to use a janitorial service that is an E Verified employer.

What is E Verify?

E Verify (E-Verify) is a free (at no cost to customer) web-based service provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The program allows U.S. employers to verify the identity and work eligibility status of any new employee by matching the employee’s Form I-9 (Employee Eligibility Verification) information against the records that are available to DHS and the Social Security Administration (SSA). The program is available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam.

E Verified employers have the option of becoming E Verify employer agents or using the services of another E Verify employer agent to perform the verification checks.

What Businesses Use E Verify?

E Verify is considered a voluntary program and is not technically a requirement for the hiring process of many businesses. However, employers that receive federal contracts or subcontracts containing the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) E Verify clause, or those in states that have legislation mandating the use of E Verify are required to enroll in the program. You can find a list of participating E Verified employers on the program’s official website.

There were 8,793,734 reported E Verify cases during Fiscal Year Q1 (October 2017-December 2017), according to the E Verify website. Of those cases, 98.95% were automatically confirmed as work authorized with an additional 0.13% confirmed after an initial mismatch. Another 0.92% were not found authorized at a total of 80,367 cases.

Why Use a Company That E Verifies New Employees?

There are many reasons why businesses and organizations should hire E Verified janitorial services. In addition to any concerns you may have about the quality of work being performed, not knowing whether the individuals who are working in your area of operation are legally allowed to do so can create potential safety, liability and security risks for your organization.

According to the Report of The National Task Force on the Criminal Backgrounding of America, some of the top reasons why businesses and organizations choose to run background checks on their employees include:

  • Public Safety,
  • Limitation of Liability,
  • Customer Assurance,
  • Compliance with Legal Requirements,
  • Protection of Vulnerable Populations,
  • Conditions of Doing Business
  • Fear or Avoidance of Loss of Business,
  • Concerns about Public Relations Issues Caused by an Individual with a Past Record, and
  • Regaining Customer or Public Trust.

Using an E Verified janitorial service helps you to avoid hiring a company employing individuals who are ineligible to work and provides peace of mind knowing that your business is being cleaned by a legal workforce.

Pro Clean Is An E Verified Employer, Runs Background Checks

When it comes to ensuring the safety and security of our clients, we here at Pro Clean like to “cross our t’s and dot our i’s.” This means that we go the extra mile by not only using E Verify to verify the identity and work eligibility of every employee but also by running thorough background checks on them as well.

Before anyone can work at Pro Clean, they first must pass:

  • A national criminal background check,
  • A Social Security number verification,
  • A sexual predator search, and
  • A terrorist watch search.

This is just one of many ways that we look out for our clients. Additionally, all of our employees are covered by both Workers’ Compensation and general liability insurance. Furthermore, they are all thoroughly trained in environmentally responsible industry cleaning practices and procedures, and have undergone additional training to minimize safety claims.

Don’t settle for using a janitorial service that doesn’t state whether they E Verify their employees (or admits they don’t use E Verify).
